STEM Squad Profile: Katherine Hatcher
I am currently a Neuroscience PhD candidate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I study how environmental factors influence the brain and behavior.
I am currently a 5th year Neuroscience PhD Candidate at Illinois. My research has spanned multiple projects, from studying how environmental chemicals impact the brain and behavior, to how cognitive training modulates circadian rhythms. In my time at Illinois, I have developed a passion for learning how the brain interacts with the body to control hormone-related physiology such as metabolism and reproduction. This passion has led me to starting my podcast, Endocrine Disruptors, which launched on all podcast platforms in August 2019.
Outside of the lab, I am extremely passionate about breaking the stigma around mental health in academia, as well as supporting others who do the same. Since starting my blog Grad Self-Care back in October 2018, I have slowly found who I am through self-discovery and self-care, as well as connecting with other individuals on social media. I am also a beer lover and cat mom, as well as amateur boxer!
